The Lambourne Golf Club, Dropmore Road, Burnham, Bucks, SL1 8NF
Since 2020 the owners have invested £1.5M in to a five-year plan of renovations and improvements carried out on the course and practise facilities here at The Lambourne.
The plan was drawn up with the assistance of renowned course architect David Jones, who has established himself as one of the most imaginative and forward-thinking golf course designers in Europe.
The plans were phased and were designed to upgrade all aspects of the course, and the practise facilities. A new golf course irrigation system was installed, which was an essential part of our plans to take the course to a new level.
An important aspect of the plan is that the annual course maintenance budget has been significantly increased and all maintenance programmes reviewed.

The image gallery below shows the new changes to a selection of holes and the practice facilities as part of the 5-year plan.
New combined forward tee. The hole now plays 121 yards from the forward tees.
The very large bunker across the front of the green was split in two, to incorporate a saddle shaped apron in the gap.
This offers a route to the green without a ‘forced’ carry, and creates a run-off back down the apron for weak shots that fail to get fully through the gap.
The LH rear bunker has become a grass bunker.
New forward combined tee. The hole now plays 314 yards from this tee.
The lake has been filled from the centre-line out to the right edge, allowing all players a better chance of reaching the green, even with a running shot.
The greenside finish has been formed by installing a wood face to keep that section of the lake as a clean edge, and avoid it becoming obscured by reeds or vegetation.
The fairway bunker on the right side of the fairway has been removed to allow players a safe option to play down that side to open up the revised approach route. The fairway has been
broadened on that side.
The front greenside bunker has been converted to a grass hollow, finished to catch basin specification for easy drainage, and the rear bunker on the right side has been reformed to a more economical shape and size.
Left Hand fairway bunker has been refurbished and re-shaped.
An additional tee has been formed and positioned between the existing men’s tees, to make the hole play at 499 yards.
New forward tee. The hole will play at 405 yards from this tee.
A new fairway bunker has been constructed on the right edge of the fairway at around 300 yards from the back tee position.
New tree planting has been added at the rear of the green.
All greenside bunkers refurbished and re-shaped.
The front entrance to the green on the 1st altered by filling in the front of the left-side bunker and drawing the right side bunker more in front of the green to present a more oblique appearance.
New forward tee. The hole now plays 96 yards from this tee, with a carry over the lake of between 60 and 70 yards.
The ground to the left of this proposed tee is quite steep, so the slopes has been finished to a 1 in 3.5 maintainable grade.
The greenside bunker has been refurbished and reshaped.
New forward combined tee. The hole now plays 274 yards from this tee.
The left side fairway bunker has been moved forward by some 20 metres and rebuilt, intruding more into the fairway, with the old cavity being filled in.
The greenside bunkers have been refurbished and reshaped.
New forward tee. The hole now plays 400 yards from this tee.
The existing fairway bunkers, on the left, has been replaced by a single large bunker. This will be angled more into the fairway at around 275 yards from the back tee. It has been constructed
so that the sand line can be seen from the tee and all slopes made more favourable for germination and maintenance.
Greenside bunkers have been refurbished and reshaped.
New combined forward tee. The hole now plays 303 yards from this tee.
The fairway bunker on the right has been re-shaped to lie across the line of play rather than parallel to it. It also intrudes further into the fairway.
All greenside bunkers have been refurbished and re-shaped.
New Water Hazard to the front and left of the green.
Four target greens have been built at 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards to a specification so as to be receptive, but not of putting quality, they have fringe surrounds and imitation bunkers together with irrigation cover.
A short practice chipping green has been formed to the rear of the practice range tee. Behind that, in the secluded area, a large undulating green with bunkers and mounding has been
formed, where players can practice or be instructed on the types of recovery shots they might encounter in real play.
